The Buxton Challenge, Sat. 4 October 2008

For many years we held an annual Open Day on the first Saturday of October, including a first aid competition known as the Buxton Trophy, in honour of Dr St.John Buxton, a staunch supporter of our charity. There was a gap of a few years when it was difficult to get enough teams. In 2008 we felt the mood had changed, and decided to resurrect it, held at The Chantry, Thornbury near Bristol, renamed the Buxton Challenge. The organiser was Dougie MacEachran, supported by members from several regions all over the country. Here is what some of the competitors have said:

  • "I am so pleased that Casualties Union have resurrected their competition. It's always just that bit different from our usual competitions. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and just loved the new forensic tests. A cracking idea."
  • "Good to see the return of the competition. As always, super make-up and acting, as you would expect from Casualties Union. Let's hope it's even bigger and better next year. We shall definitely be entering."
  • "A great day, well stage-managed. Just wish there had been more teams. I'm sure there will be next year. A good mix in the tests with diagnostic, forensic, pairs and individual. This makes for an interesting day. Thank you,."

July 2005
Cleveland Group had a 3 minute slot on Look North News in association with the RNLI. The scenario started with a single lifeboat, called to a broken down boat.  As these things do... the scene developed  to a 'coble on fire', necesscitating teh attendance of a second lifeboat and crew.  Those rescued were: Brian Cowley, Richard Gibson and George Stevenson, as shown below:
