For some years Furness branch has enjoyed a close relationship with the Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and in April 2019 three of our longest-standing members were invited to Ambleside to attend a special VIP visit at their HQ to mark their 50th anniversary.

His Royal Highness arrived at the headquarters just after lunch and after a tour of the facilities stepped outside to view the rescue team working on our Casualties Union member Paul. HRH seemed very interested in what was happening and asked a number of questions, moving around to get a better view of the  ‘rescue’.

On re-entering the building His Royal Highness made his way around the room and was kind enough to stop and speak to the members of Furness branch. He asked us about the sort of duties we do and said he was pleased to see Paul had recovered well!

Paul’s injuries drew a lot of attention from the press who were there and he was also interviewed by BBC Radio Cumbria. All in all, it was a great day indeed for the Furness branch and Casualties Union. Sincere thanks to the members of Langdale and Ambleside mountain rescue for allowing us to share in the celebration.
